From September 11 to 13, 2024, the conference “Cerebellar Development and Disease at Single-Cell Resolution” took place in Heidelberg. The event was organized by Prof. Dr. Simone Mayer (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) and Dr. Lena Kutscher (German Cancer Research Center), bringing together leading researchers in cerebellar research.
During the conference, the latest findings on specific processes in cerebellar development were presented and discussed. Another focus was on exchanging ideas about innovative methods such as organoid models, 3-dimensional structures created from stem cells in the lab that mimic different organs and how they can be developed further. Additionally, single-cell sequencing was discussed as a method that examines molecular differences in individual cells in a tissue. Additionally, cerebellar diseases, their causes, and new research approaches were intensely discussed.
In this context, Prof. Mayer also presented her research group’s current work on a cerebellar organoid model for PCH2a, which was vividly discussed. The focus of this meeting on the cerebellum and its development, along with the intimate format of the event, facilitated lively and constructive discussions and closer networking among all participants. The conference brought together cerebellar researchers from across the world and will further strengthen future collaborations in this field of research.
